Airport Spas Are Adding New Gates to Relaxation

The face of airport spas is changing, with new and improved services that will help take the edge of off the wait.

Though some travelers don’t even know airport spas exist, they’re blooming like lotuses around the world. But what has me even more excited is the array of new airport spa services. The new offerings consider time, privacy, and rest as a way to help make your travel day a happier one.

Airport spas come into two general types: those directly accessible in the airport terminal and those within airline lounges or clubs. In both cases, they have expanded from the usual spa services.

Some relaxing new airport spa features for your next trip

Guided meditation

Delta Airlines opened its first spa, under the Asanda Spa Lounge brand, in the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in late 2016. They also have a spa at Kennedy Airport. The new Asanda Spa opened at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport earlier this year.

A unique feature that they offer is a guided meditation by Deepak Chopra Dream Weaver—a light-and-sound service.

Privacy

Many airport spas are situated where you feel you are part of the airport traffic. This won’t be the case if you escape into the privacy cocoons at Spa Here.

They are opening their first location in Terminal C at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport this summer. The 1,000-square-foot spa will offer treatments in a quiet and private setting.

I got the latest scoop about all the details when I meet with one of the founders recently. Read more about it here.

VR technology, healthy juice, and showers

Be Relax Spa has really evolved in the last four years since I started writing about airport spas. They have upgraded the whole airport spa experience. Now they have not just new services but also an online booking system and cool in-flight products.

Some of their new services to look out for are VR technology, healthy juice and showers.

Quick pick-me-up treatments

XpresSpa is the pioneer of airport spas and they keep expanding around the globe. They will be offering a new series of treatments named XpresRecover this year. These include some new ones you may want to experience:

  • Cryotherapy is the subzero performance therapy that can be a great pick-me-up to that jetlagged skin. The term “cryotherapy” comes from the Greek cryo (κρύο) meaning cold, and therapy (θεραπεία) meaning cure—nothing to cry about!
  • Compression Therapy helps increase blood flow activity in the lower limbs through strengthening vein support.
  • Salt Chambers are a natural and holistic treatment. They have been known to aid in detoxifying the respiratory system and healing skin conditions, and they can promote better breathing, sounder sleep and overall wellness.

The changing face of airport spas is sure to relax and inspire. Let us know if you have a chance to try our these new treatments.
