Review: The Heated Rooftop Pool & Gym at Arlanda Airport (Clarion Hotel)

We recently traveled through Stockholm Arlanda Airport and found the drop-in gym, swimming pool, and sauna at the Clarion Hotel®. What a nice respite from the stresses of traveling!

Most airport gyms are hidden in a basement, but Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) does it differently.

Located right in the center of the airport, the Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport features a heated year-round outdoor pool, a full gym, and a sauna—all with views of the runway.

I visited during my last layover, and here is everything you need to know about accessing this Nordic wellness oasis in 2026.

The hotel feels very contemporary, creative and inspirational. It was designed by Anders Björkén of Björkén Architects with close attention to how furnishings and surfaces contribute to the overall mood of a space.

1. The Location: It’s “Landside” (SkyCity)

Status: OPEN Access: Before Security

The most important thing to know is that this hotel is located in SkyCity, the “shopping mall” area that connects Terminals 4 and 5.

  • Why this matters: Because it is before security, you can visit even if you don’t have a boarding pass yet (or if you just landed).
  • How to find it: Follow the signs for “SkyCity” or “Clarion Hotel” from any terminal. It is a short indoor walk from both domestic and international arrivals.

2. The Highlight: Rooftop Pool & Gym

The Clarion features a full wellness complex on its roof that is open to the public via a Day Pass.

  • The Pool: This is a heated outdoor pool on the roof terrace. It is open 365 days a year, meaning you can swim warm laps even while snow is falling on the runway—a truly unique Swedish experience.
  • The Gym: Unlike the tiny hotel gyms you are used to, this is a proper fitness center with treadmills, free weights, and views of the airport operations.
  • The Sauna: In true Nordic fashion, a relaxing sauna is available to warm up after your swim.

3. My Experience: “I Was There”

I personally visited this pool during a layover, and it is a game-changer. There is something surreal about floating in warm water while watching massive jets take off and land just a few hundred yards away. It completely resets your body clock after a long flight.

4. How to Access (Day Passes)

You don’t need to book a room to use the facilities. The Clarion offers a Day Pass (approx. 200–300 SEK, ~$20–$30 USD) that grants access to the gym, pool, and sauna.

  • Free Access: Occasionally, the hotel offers free entry on Friday evenings for “After Work” events, though this schedule varies.
  • What’s Included: Towels, lockers, and fruit are typically provided with your pass.
