Sweatlag: Can You Actually Sweat Out Fatigue?

Sweatlag is the latest jet lag remedy brought to you by Delta Airlines and Equinox Fitness Clubs.

Sweatlag is landing in L.A. this summer, offering workouts designed to keep travelers from feeling the effects of jet lag after a flight. The exercises will focus on easing the stiffness in your muscles and giving your body a chance to shake off the mental and physical aches and pains of travel.

The limited-time classes are available from July 10 until August 2, 2018. Classes take place at Equinox locations in Marina del Rey, West Hollywood, and Westwood. They’re open to anyone who has recently taken a trip with Delta or any other airline. Or you can watch workout videos online from your hotel room, home, or anywhere.

Travelers can sign up for classes at sweatlag.com by providing a boarding pass for their recent trip.

Can you sweat out fatigue with a workout?

We asked the experts to weigh in.

Bryna Carracino, the founder of REHAB, has over ten years of experience in the fitness industry. REHAB’s 35-minute class is designed to rehabilitate the mind, body, and spirit through mental training, music speed (beats per minute or BPM), higher intensity resistance training, and animal/power yoga flow. Bryna says:

“Lower intensity exercise coupled with horizontal breath (diaphragm breath) and moving rhythmically to a BPM of 145 will boost energy levels, get your endorphins going, release dopamine in the brain which in turn will combat fatigue and have you feeling refreshed and restored.”

We also reached out to our friend Chris Castellano, a travel fitness specialist and the founder of Fittest Travel. Fittest Travel helps travelers stay fit and healthy while on the road. This is what he told us:

“Research has shown that you can elevate physical and mental energy levels with exercise. In my experience, while traveling, there is no better way to do that than with high intensity interval training (HIIT). The first thing I like to do after a long flight is to hit the hotel gym and jump on a stationary bike for a few minutes or do a high intensity bodyweight circuit workout in my hotel room.”

So it seems fighting fatigue with a workout can help to combat jet lag!
