Adelaide’s new airport hotel, Atura, has a bold, modern aesthetic coupled with a health-oriented approach so guests always wake up fresh and ready to travel.
Australia’s ‘City of Churches’ has seen an increase in visitors year on year, and its new design-driven airport hotel is a welcome addition for transiting travelers.
A direct walkway links the hotel with both the domestic and international departure areas, so you can check in too early morning flights just minutes after waking up. Integrated into the broader terminal, the hotel makes the most of its location with its top category of rooms overlooking the runway.
But what sets this hotel airport apart is its vibrant design and focus on providing wellness options for guests whether or not you’re staying overnight. The restaurant, bar, lobby and public spaces are open to all.
Atura Adelaide Airport’s retro-industrial chic design
A splash of color
The ground floor of the hotel is one large, bright open space with soaring ceilings dotted with low-hanging light fittings. Color is everywhere – in the yellow metal chairs, the blue and red geometric cushions and the multicolored carpet. The industrial fittings, vivid colors and pop music playing in the background create an industrial and thoroughly urban feel, perfect for the modern traveler.
Behind the 24-hour reception is a small self-serve store with essentials like deodorant and toothpaste, and healthy snacks such as tuna and cracker packs, Up and Go breakfast smoothies and fresh juice.
A pool table dominates an area off to the left of reception, and behind a large open floor-to-ceiling bookcase filled with brightly-colored vases, verdant green plants and world globes a comfy sitting area beckons weary travelers.
To poke or not to poke
The other side of the expansive space includes a vast wraparound tiled bar, serving pastries and Prosecco all day (yes please!), and the appropriately named on-site restaurant, Hangar Bar & Grill.
Alongside burgers, steaks, and pizzas, the main menu includes a ‘salads & greens’ section with three tantalizing options. No Caesar or nicoise in sight, you can choose from a poke bowl with yuzu ponzu dressing, edamame and your choice of sashimi tuna, sashimi salmon or poached chicken; crispy pork belly and prawns with green mango, mint, and crispy shallots; or the ‘poached chicken & green goddess’ with almonds, pomegranate and green goddess dressing.
The self-serve breakfast buffet also offers plenty of healthy options, with fresh watermelon, pears, and pineapple available. An extensive selection of seeds, nuts, and dried fruits make for tasty toppings for your yogurt or Bircher muesli. Plus, gluten-free bread and pastries are also on offer.
Sleep like an aviation king
The forward-thinking design of the ground floor spaces extends to the rooms. Concrete walls and ceilings are softened by vintage photo murals and the bright yellows and reds of the sofa cushions and desk chairs. All rooms are equipped with king-sized EVENT signature Dream Beds – you virtually melt into them once you lie down. In-room kitchenettes include chai tea and nourishing muesli bars, plus free bottles of water.
Behind a blindingly bright yellow sliding door, you will find a beautiful white bathroom with large shower and stylish subway tiles offset by more vintage wallpaper. Products from famed Australian natural body and hair care range, Biology, are begging to be used. (And possibly smuggled home in your carry on!)
On the second floor is a small but functional gym. It’s slightly hidden away behind event and function spaces named after famous Australian aviators. Two treadmills, two bikes, and one elliptical, plus weights and stretching area provide you with everything you need to keep your exercise routine on track, even when traveling.
Atura Adelaide Airport is a new type of airport hotel for Australia. It’s modern, fresh and catered to travelers focused on wellness. Other airport hotels throughout the country should take note – you have some catching up to do.
