Airport Spa Review: Oraoxygen Spa at Calgary Airport is a Literal Breath of Fresh Air

On my way back from the beautiful Rocky Mountains, I made a little extra time to stop for a treatment at the Calgary Airport spa. I always like to take a short time to myself at the end of a trip to unwind and de-stress so that my return flight is that much more relaxed and enjoyable.

What Oraoxygen Spa offers busy travelers through Calgary Airport

I visited Oraoxygen Spa for an oxygen treatment and a manicure before my flight. Oraoxygen is the only Calgary Airport spa.

The spa offers a full selection of treatments at two locations in the domestic terminal pre-security, so they’re easily accessible no matter which concourse you’re flying out from.

They offer manicures, pedicures, hand and foot massages, waxing and threading, brow and lash tinting, chair massages and of course their namesake oxygen sessions.

What is an oxygen session?

I tried an oxygen session for the first time!

If you’ve never tried an oxygen session before, it’s a straightforward setup with non-invasive equipment. A thin tube runs from the machine under your nose, hanging on your ears to stay in place. It pumps out oxygen with a fragrance of your choice, and you can adjust the flow to suit. You can sit back and breathe normally.

The beautiful thing about the oxygen treatment is you can get it while having other services like a manicure or massage performed. I got my oxygen treatment (with a lovely light fragrance containing geranium and fennel) concurrently with a manicure.

The spa has a wide range of nail colors to choose from, and therapists take their time with cleaning, prepping, and massaging before applying color. Want something to drink? Ask for a tea or coffee to enjoy while you pamper yourself.

Why would I want an oxygen treatment?

It surely isn’t a surprise to anyone that oxygen plays a vital role in our lives.

“When virgin forests covered the Earth, and when our oceans teemed with life, the oxygen content in the atmosphere was 38%. Today, it is less than 20%, and even lower in most urban areas. Because of these earth changes, we are all oxygen deficient. Over 90% of the body’s energy is created by oxygen. Every single activity of the body is regulated by oxygen. Without oxygen, we cannot think, feel or act. As well, oxygen deficient cells cannot repair themselves. The more oxygen we have in our system, the more energy we are able to produce. In fact, a good definition of vitality is the body’s ability to assimilate oxygen.” —Oraoxygen Spa

You can select from a menu of oxygen fragrances at Oraoxygen to create an immersive and relaxing experience that makes for a great addition to any spa treatment.

Where to find Oraoxygen Spa at Calgary Airport

The spa is tricky to find when you first arrive at the airport. Just make sure you don’t go through security first. You can find the Oraoxygen spa in the public area pre-security.

It’s tucked in behind the check-in desks near B and C gates. Just follow the overhead signage to B and C gates, or ask a friendly Calgarian in a white hat to point you in the right direction!

The spa has two locations — one in the main terminal area and another inside the in-terminal Marriott Hotel. I visited the location inside the Marriott, which was delightfully silent without the usual airport traffic going by.

A breath of fresh air at the airport

I left feeling a little lighter, a little more energized, and with a beautiful new manicure to show off. The cleanest air does not often surround frequent travelers. Getting a breath of fresh air before or after you fly is an excellent remedy for some of these physical and mental stressors of travel!
