This kind of social distancing, together with regular handwashing, is vital to halt the spread of COVID-19.
The design of social distancing has redefined check-in counters, public seating, security, and boarding gates at airports.
We decided to explore what social distancing looks like at airports.

1. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has a distancing reminders throughout the airport with floor stickers in the food court.
2. Denver Airport information desks are high traffic spaces that act as help desks for travelers. Denver has placed floor tape to indicates 6′ distances to reinforce social distancing guidelines.
3. Lehigh Valley International Airport has installed marked carpet tiles at the checkpoint to avoid close contact with passengers.
4. Ontario Airport has placed a distancing reminder with floor stickers to know your way.
5. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport has modified with seat-to-seat distancing. Seating arrangement becomes a one to two-person setup.
6. Moscow Domodedovo Airport told Vane they “remind passengers of coronavirus protection measures, including social distancing, via audio-visual channels. The airport has put posters in departure and arrival halls, while its audio message is played every 15 minutes. The terminal has special markings at check-in counters and security checkpoints to ensure a distance of 1.5 meters.”
Benefits of social distancing at airports:
1. Social distancing may be reasonable crowd control in long wait lines. Have you encountered those lines when it’s’ feels like a stampede is brewing? People being close to each other can be stressful. However, some distance and personal space can make long lines tolerable.
2. Social distancing may be useful in boarding areas too. Boarding areas have been congested communal focal points. Perhaps distance in the waiting area will lead travelers to have a happier experience. You can benefit from more space and outlets too.
