Free airport shower facilities should be mandatory! It’s incredible to me the number of airports that don’t offer showers, paid or free. There are many of us taking long flights with long layovers. Taking a shower can help keep us feeling human while traveling.

To help you stay fresh on the go, we’ve rounded up ten free airport shower facilities at airports around the world.

The Asian Hubs (Best for Long Haul Transit)

1. Taipei Taoyuan Airport (TPE) – The Gold Standard

The Vane Verdict: The gold standard for free airport hygiene. TPE treats free showers as a standard amenity, not a luxury.

  • Where:
    • Terminal 1: Arrivals (1F & 2F).
    • Terminal 2: Arrivals (1F) and Departures (4F).
  • The Wellness Details: Spacious and bright, typically equipped with complimentary shampoo and body wash.
  • The Catch: BYO Towel. While some travelers report finding towels, it is inconsistent. Best to pack a microfiber travel towel or buy a kit at the nearby salon/convenience store.

2. Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) – The Wellness Paradise

The Vane Verdict: A wellness paradise for transit passengers, offering dedicated shower suites rather than just bathroom stalls.

  • Where:
    • Terminal 1: Center of 4F, specifically in the Duty-Free area near Gate 25 and Gate 29.
    • Terminal 2: 4F, near Gate 231 and Gate 268.
  • The Wellness Details: These are excellent facilities often referred to as “Shower Rooms.” They are free for transit passengers.
  • The Catch:
    • Transit Only: If you are not a transfer passenger (i.e., you are starting your journey at ICN), there is a fee of approx. 3,000 KRW (~$2.50 USD).
    • Towel Fee: While transit is free, you usually have to pay a small towel/amenity kit fee (approx. 3,000 KRW) unless you bring your own.

3. Hong Kong Airport (HKG) – The 24-Hour Gem

Hong Kong International Airport

The Vane Verdict: A rare 24-hour gem perfect for refreshing after a long-haul landing.

  • Where: Terminal 1, Arrivals Level (L5). Look near Gate 12 and Gate 43.
  • The Wellness Details: These officially ‘Complimentary Shower Facilities’ include a hair dryer, shampoo, and bath gel, making the amenities clear for travelers.
  • The Catch: You must bring your own towel. If you forget, there is a vending machine nearby that sells them.

4. Dubai International Airport (DXB) – The Necessary Stopover

The Vane Verdict: Functional and convenient for the massive amount of transit traffic DXB handles.

  • Where:
    • Terminal 3: Between Gates B13–B19 and Gates C18–C22.
    • Terminal 1: Between Gates C18–C22.
  • The Wellness Details: Water pressure is generally good, but these are high-traffic facilities.
  • The Catch: Strictly functional. No towels or amenities are provided.

The Oceania Connectors (Australia & New Zealand)

5. Perth Airport (PER) – The Ultra-Long Haul Saver

The Vane Verdict: A lifesaver for the ultra-long-haul flights typical of Western Australia.

  • Where:
    • Landside (Arrivals): Terminal 1 International, Ground Floor (near Arrivals Hall).
    • Airside (Departures): Terminal 1 International, Level 2 (after security).
  • The Wellness Details: Unlike many airports where “free showers” are just accessible toilets, these are standalone stalls.
  • The Catch: Towels and toiletries are not provided.
    • Tip: You can buy a disposable towel at Smarte Carte (Ground Floor) or toiletries at the nearby Amcal Pharmacy.

6. Brisbane Airport (BNE) – The Facility Heavyweight

The Vane Verdict: Australia is fantastic for complimentary amenities, and Brisbane is no exception.

  • Where:
    • International Terminal: Level 2 (Arrivals) and Level 3 (Departures, after security).
    • Domestic Terminal: Level 2 (Central Terminal area) near Gate 36, and in the satellite area near Gate 26.
  • The Catch: Completely free, but purely a “facility.” You need to bring your own towel and toiletries.

7. Sydney Airport (SYD) – The Basic Option

The Vane Verdict: A solid option for freshening up, provided you come prepared.

  • Where:
    • International Terminal (T1): Airside (Departures). Look for the signs near Gates 31, 51, and 24.
    • Landside: Basic showers in the Arrivals hall (Level 1).
  • The Catch: These are “shell” facilities—meaning just the stall and water. You must bring your own towel, soap, and shampoo.

    • Domestic Terminal: First floor.

The Catch: Basic soap is usually provided, but strictly BYO towel.

    • International Departures: Airside washrooms.
  • The Catch: Towels are not provided, but you can hire (rent) a kit from the Travel and Tourism Centre in Arrivals.

10. Wellington Airport (WLG) – The Hidden Gem

The Vane Verdict: A hidden gem for domestic or trans-Tasman travelers.

  • Where: Main Terminal, Level 1 (Landside, before security). Located inside the public toilets.
  • The Catch: BYO towel and toiletries.

Plan B: If the Free Showers are Full (Airside Hotels)

Free showers are great, but they often come with long queues and require you to bring your own towel. If you are exhausted and just want guaranteed privacy, here are the best in-terminal hotels where you can book a short stay to shower and sleep without clearing immigration.

  • Dubai (DXB): The Dubai International Hotel (Terminal 3, Airside) is the ultimate upgrade. Their “Health Club” package grants you access to a revitalizing shower, plus the jacuzzi, steam room, and heated indoor pool. It comes fully stocked with plush towels and toiletries, so you don’t need to unpack a thing.

  • Seoul (ICN): The Incheon Airport Transit Hotel (Terminal 1 & 2) offers private rooms bookable in 6-hour blocks. Unlike the public showers, these rooms feature private en-suite bathrooms equipped with hair dryers, slippers, and fresh towels, ensuring a completely private refresh during your layover.

  • Taipei (TPE): If the free showers are crowded, the Cho Stay Capsule Hotel (Terminal 2) is a stylish alternative. While the bathrooms are shared, they are equipped with premium Dyson hair dryers and heated toilet seats. Shampoo and shower gel are provided for free, though you may need to rent a towel if you didn’t bring one.
